Induction, training and development

Every new colleague completes a structured, fully paid induction before working unsupervised, covering safeguarding and child protection, trauma-informed practice, positive behaviour support and de-escalation, first aid, health and safety, food hygiene, medication, missing from home protocols, online safety, GDPR and record keeping. Alongside this, all support workers are enrolled on the fully funded Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare, with the Level 5 Diploma funded for those moving into leadership. Refresher training is scheduled annually and competence is reviewed in supervision.

Career progression

We grow our leaders from within. A clear pathway runs from Residential Support Worker, to Senior Support Worker, to Deputy Manager, to Registered Manager, each stage with defined competencies, funded qualifications and mentoring from an experienced manager. Residential childcare should be a career, not a stop gap, so we invest in people who want to build a long term future with us.

Safer recruitment statement

Bridgewater is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share that commitment. All appointments are subject to an enhanced DBS check with barred list, verification of full employment history, a minimum of two satisfactory references, proof of identity and right to work, and values-based interviewing. All posts are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

Equality, diversity and inclusion

We are an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, ethnicities, faiths, ages, gender identities, sexual orientations and disabilities, and we make reasonable adjustments at every stage of recruitment and employment. A diverse team helps every child in our care feel seen, understood and valued, and we actively promote an inclusive culture in each of our homes.

Employee testimonials, coming soon

Our team is currently being recruited. Rather than publish anything invented, we will share genuine reflections from our staff once the home is open and colleagues have experienced working with us first hand.
